How we get to that number
Components at our published shop prices, plus 59% for mounting, DC and AC protection, wiring, labour, commissioning and the Certificate of Compliance. That's the same maths behind our installed kits, so you can check it against the kit prices.
Five things a cheap quote usually leaves out
Worth checking on ours too. If a competitor's quote covers all five and still comes in under us, take it — and tell us, because we'd like to know.
1. The Certificate of Compliance
Legally required on any work that touches fixed wiring, and needed when you sell the property. If it isn't named on the quote, assume it's not in the price. Budget R2 000–R3 500 to add it later.
2. DC protection and isolators
Fuses, surge arrestors, DC isolators and correct earthing are the parts nobody sees and the first thing dropped to win a price. They're also what stops a roof fire.
3. Panel count versus kWp
"6kWp" can be 11 panels or 13 depending on wattage. Count the panels, not the headline number — that's where a quote quietly shrinks.
4. Whose name the warranty is in
Manufacturer warranties should be registered to you, not the installer. If the installer closes, you want the claim to still be yours.
5. Who does the municipal paperwork
Grid-tied and hybrid systems need registering with your municipality. Some quotes leave that to you, which is a fortnight of admin you didn't budget for.
